Montepolli is our estate wine, the heart of which comes from a calcareous clay and terraced plot at Licinia (3Ha). It also contains the more vigorous sections of the top cru vineyards and the larger bunches from those vineyards. The vineyards are not as special as the cru vineyards, and even within them there is a range of quality, but the work we do in the vineyard and in the cellar is the same as in the top vineyards. very low yields around 20-25HL/Ha, no Hedging, biodynamic procedures, light and heat and cover crop management programmes. No over fertilising. Sap-flow sensitive pruning. Rapid and intense shoot thinning. Harvest by taste not analysis. Ageing is in 500L oak and concrete with timings depending on the lots but anywhere between 8-12 months in oak and 6-9 months in concrete.
